Can you help support an exciting new community heritage project?

Dear Scottie Press readers,

can you help support an exciting new community heritage project? Liverpool-based labour historian, Dr. Greig Campbell, is currently researching the December 1979 workers’ takeover of the Binns Rd. Meccano factory. A 4-month sit-in, spearheaded by local shop stewards and backed by the predominantly female workforce, was only defeated when police and bailiffs pulled down the barricades and forced entry. An oral historian who specialises in documenting worker responses to plant closures, Greig is seeking to trace participants and witnesses to this little-known episode in Merseyside’s illustrious labour history. This may include ex-workers, community leaders, political activists and/or trade unionists.

If you or anyone you know (friends, family, former colleagues, neighbours) fall into this category, please contact Greig at g.campbell@wlv.ac.uk or on 07585669833.
